Our Story

The idea for Herbosophy was born out of personal medical necessity. In 2005 I was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, a nerve degenerative illness comprising of accumulative paralysis of all voluntary muscles; affecting movement, swallowing and breathing leading to death in 2 to 5 years - I was given 2 years. There is no medical cure or treatment.

This is when I turned to nutritive therapies. Intense research followed trying to find a reasonable hypothesis for the genesis of this dilemna. Obssessive tenacity would be a reasonable way to describe my search for hope in an otherwise proven, certain demise. Little helped. Several questions arose.

  1. Was I taking the correct herbs/nutrients?

  2. Was I taking the right dosage? The Herbosophy Family

  3. how did I know the quality and freshness of the herbs I was taking were high, i.e. When and where were the herbs harvested, how long had they been stored, when were they packaged and how much more time had elapsed by the time i bought them.

The first two questions I could research and experiment with but the third, to do with quality, I had no control over...and that had to change. Because in my research I came across a lot of info I would never had guessed otherwise. Like how diluted most commercial supplements are. The low quality of ingredients used along with the unknown age of these preparations, casts serious doubt over their efficacy. Herbs can be adulterated with others, especially when bought in such large quantities by major manufacturers. What's the quality like, how old is it? You see, from the moment it's powdered, the herb starts to lose its effectiveness, 6 - 12 months is pretty much it.

I proceeded to source crude dried herbs and then grind and encapsulate as needed, personally I noticed this was more effective for me nutritionally.

I would like to exemplify that in no way am I prescribing or claiming to treat, cure or alleviate any disease. Please do your own research and check with your physician, naturopath or herbalist for advice on which herbs and dosages to take and possible contraindications and drug reactions. Where possible I've added info on each herb, to be used as a guide only.

Our sincerest thanks from our family at Herbosophy.
